Built on the reputation of quality local service, honesty, and passion for building strong relationships, Wm. Miller Scrap Iron & Metal Co. had its beginning when Louis Miller immigrated to Winona from Russia in the early 1900’s and formed Consumers Tire & Supply Co. Consumers Tire & Supply Co. mainly sold tires, but also purchased rags, paper, and scrap metals and then sold them for recycling purposes.At that time the main source of transportation was horse and wagon. Louis’ son William and his wife Esther separated from Consumers Tire & Supply Co. in 1950 and formed Miller Salvage and Supply Co., which was located at 222-224 West Second Street in Winona. Miller Salvage became Wm. Miller Scrap Iron & Metal Co. in 1955 and continued in the ferrous and non-ferrous scrap business.

 

In the early 1960's Miller Scrap expanded into the refuse and roll-off dumpster business along with a small Mixed Solid Waste (MSW) transfer station. In the early 1970's Miller Scrap purchased 10 acres of industrial land from the Winona Port Authority and moved its entire scrap and MSW transfer station to the property located at 1252 Trempealeau Drive in Winona, where Miller Scrap is located to this day.

 

Today the fourth generation of Miller's along with 15 employees are involved in the operation which includes balers, shredders, shears, cranes, excavators, trucks, loaders, as well as various types of other equipment and a State of Minnesota licensed MSW transfer station. This growth has been made possible by maintaining and building our reputation of quality local service, honesty, and building strong business relationships along with much valued employees.
